At Urmston Primary we believe that language and literacy is fundamental to the overall development of the child and their access to the curriculum in all its aspects. We aim to deliver quality teaching of basic and higher order reading, writing and speaking and listening skills to enable children to become confident, independent and successful in their literacy, who love to read and write. We follow the National Curriculum and other guidance to enable quality learning and teaching to take place.
The above will be achieved whilst considering our school values, the resources that we use and the way we support and challenge the children in Literacy, guiding them to become resilient and responsible learners whilst empathising with the content of the texts they study.
The policy below outlines the procedures for reading and writing, as well as our phonics and early reading practises, which Pearson's Phonics Bug helps us to deliver. It also considers how we are supporting our children in the aftermath of the pandemic.
